East District of Sikkim, Rangpo and Rongli, Chuzachen Village
The 110 MW Hydro Electric Power Plant in Sikkim, commissioned in May 2013 , is India’s first IPP (Independent Power Project) for hydroelectric power in the private sector. The project on the Rangpo and Rongli rivers has been commissioned on a Build, Operate, Own and Transfer basis (BOOT). The plant is directly connected to the Central Transmission Utility (National Grid) through a 24 Km dedicated transmission line and will be able to deliver power across the country ( Owned by Government of Sikkim).
The Rangpo is a major tributary of the main river Teesta in the state of Sikkim. The Hydroelectric Power Project is based on the Run-of-the-River Hydroelectric Power plant with the installed capacity of 51 M.W. The Bhasmey has one intake of storage reservoir and one head-race tunnel joining another, an underground surge shaft, a surface pen-stock, an open air powerhouse with two units and an outdoor switch yard.
